Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This fundraiser is to raise vital funds for Oceans of Hope to help support their ongoing programme of sailing events for people with MS.

My story

In January 2020, I was having a normal week: walking the dog, going to work and doing all my normal activities.

Suddenly, a few days later and over the next few days, I started experiencing numbness, paraesthesia, ataxia and sensory loss in my face. I was taken to Luton & Dunstable University Hospital where I stayed for 10 days undergoing various scans and tests.

In June 2020 I finally received a positive diagnosis of Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a condition I was all too familiar with since my partner of 23 years also has RRMS.

I started to plan all the things I wanted to do...go snowboarding again (even if it meant a much different pace), try new things and meet new people.

This led me to Oceans of Hope, whom I heard about through a local MS support network. I signed up immediately and was lucky enough to participate in two of their Day Sails in 2022, and hope to join another in June 2024.

Oceans of Hope is led by people living with MS, for people with MS to offer people the opportunity to experience sailing as a way of learning new skills and restoring the self-confidence which can be stolen by MS.
