Story
Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP) is a UK charity. We’re here to make sure mums, parents and families are supported through postpartum psychosis – a severe, but treatable, form of mental illness that occurs after having a baby and affects 1400 new mums in the UK each year.
We offer information and peer support, facilitate ground breaking research, raise awareness and campaign for improved services.
Our life changing peer support network helps women and families affected by postpartum psychosis feel understood, supported and less isolated.
Postnatal Psychosis is something not many people are aware of nor something that is talked about often enough but it is indeed very real!
After the birth of our daughter Violet in 2019, I suffered from postnatal psychosis and it was the scariest and hardest thing I have ever had to deal with. I was in denial that there was anything wrong and things were not getting better despite being under my local perinatal team.
Ultimately this resulted in me being admitted to a Mother & Baby Unit in Derby with Violet to get the help I needed, 30 miles away from home, away from my partner Steve, away from my 2 sons!
Being in the Mother & Baby unit was frightening at first but it helped me in so many ways and I will forever be grateful for the staff there and their level of care and compassion.
I will also be forever grateful for my partner Steve, who was my rock throughout it all!
I will be walking 60 miles to raise awareness and funds for APP, I have chosen 60 miles as that is the distance from home to The Beeches Mother and Baby unit and home again, the journey that Steve was having to make to be able to come and see us!!
Please donate if you can to such a worthy cause that is so close to our families heart.
Thank you
Nat 😊
