Story
Hi, We are Rachael and Justina, we are breast cancer survivor's and an Ambassador's for Prevent Breast Cancer. I was diagnosed in July 2023 with Stage 3 Breast Cancer that had spread to my lymph nodes, and my best friend Justina was diagnosed with Stage 2 in February 2023. We have endured surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and now hormone treatment and further anti cancer treatment for the next 10 years. We never want another woman to go through what we have, and the charity Prevent Breast Cancer is the only UK charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, they are committed to freeing the world from the disease altogether. So with our passion to support early detection, and less invasive treatments, earlier on this year along with three of our wonderful friends Sally, Rachel and Emmy we set out to organise a charity ball to raise much needed funds for a special project to create the only National Breast Imaging Academy in the UK.
Why are Prevent Breast Cancer taking on such an ambitious project?
Because demand is increasing for breast imaging services. NHS workforce shortages has led to delays in breast cancer diagnosis, the closure of breast centres and reduced recruitment to research studies. Prevent Breast Cancer's capital campaign to build the National Breast Imaging Academy aims to address these problems.
Motivated by a drive to achieve earlier diagnoses for cancer patients, their top priority is to build the National Breast Imaging Academy, to deliver the space and cutting-edge training facilities required to train the next generation of breast imaging staff in the UK, enhancing the breast screening service, saving a great many lives.
An independent economic evaluation of the Academy found that, over a ten-year period, the academy’s initiatives to train radiographers, radiologists, breast clinicians, nurses, medical students, apprentices, and administrative staff, UK wide, will save the health economy £50 million. For every £1 spent on the academy, the study suggests that a £4.50 return is delivered, now that is excellent value for money!
Nantwich Summer Ball Committee hosted our Ball at Nantwich Football Club on Friday 6th September and the very generous people who attended raise a whopping £8.6k
We would LOVE to get this figure over £9k, or even more, please donate if you can, even £1 will go a long way. Thank you for your support and next year please come to our Summer ball if you can.
Thank You, Rachael, Justina, Sally, Rachel and Emmy x
