Story

Alex is an amazingly happy and wonderful 2 year old girl. Like most other 2 year olds, Alex is full of adventure, curiosity and playfulness.

What makes Alex slightly unique, and the reason we have set up this fundraiser is that on the 8th of December 2023, Alex suffered a brain haemorrhage. Alex was extremely unwell and needed to be placed in a coma. When Alex came around, her outcome was extremely uncertain due to the damage that the haemorrhage may have caused. However, her determination, strength and resilience meant that it wasn’t long until she started to knock a lot of goals out of the park:

Breathing on her own ✔️

Talking and laughing ✔️

Eating and drinking ✔️

Sitting up unsupported ✔️

Crawling ✔️

And much much more

Alex is currently trying her best to get past her next hurdle - walking! So with the support of her K-Walker, we would like to take the opportunity to raise money for a great cause

During the month of August, Alex, along with her family & friends as well as new friends we hope to meet will be completing a total of 5 miles. This might sound like a breeze to any toddler, but for Alex it’s a huge deal.

All money raised will be going to Helping Hand. A charity extremely close to our hearts.

**UPDATE**

We were called for an urgent scan on Monday the 29th of July which showed an aneurysm in the part of the brain where Alex had her bleed. Thanks to the fast planning and absolute dedication of Alex’s Neuro team, we were scheduled for the 1/8/24 for surgery. The aneurysm was successfully glued so hopefully this should be the resolution needed to keep it from being a problem.

Unfortunately during the surgery something has happened to the nerve that controls the right side of Alex’s face (this area was extremely close to where the aneurysm was) Alex has mild facial palsy at the moment. This could either be to do with the glue temporarily agitating this nerve, the nerve being swollen or possible damage to the nerve. Her Dr is positive that it should resolve to some degree with time. In addition, Alex is a little exhausted, sore and wobbly (lots of aggravation in the cerebellum area) so we need to give her a bit of time to build back up to herself. We are aiming for mid August but will keep you updated.

Everything comes with a risk, but the alternative wasn’t worth thinking about it. Our girl is already determined to get up and walking so we know she can do this. Thank you so much for all the support given already
