Story

Your Deloitte runners are:

The AJ Bell Great Manchester Run is the biggest and best running event in the North West. Starting and finishing in the heart of the city, runners soak up the amazing Manchester spirit the whole way round & pass iconic landmarks on their journey to the finish line.

On Sunday 26th May colleagues from our North West office will be taking on the challenge of running the 10k in order to fundraise for Manchester Youth Zone, the place in North Manchester for young people aged 8-19 (up to 25 with additional needs) to raise their aspirations and enjoy healthier, happier lives.

Every donation will receive matched funding by the firm (e.g. for every £1 donated, Deloitte will match £1 in addition, meaning the total donation is £2).

Thank you for your generous support!

About the charity:

Manchester Youth Zone is in Harpurhey, the 2nd worst ward in England for the effect of long-term deprivation on children. This means many are vulnerable to poor educational attainment, future worklessness and falling in to antisocial or offending behaviour.

In the local area:

Unemployment is 16.2% (national rate 7.5%)

48% of families live below the poverty line

11% of 16-18-year-olds are not in employment, education or training

The good news is we give young people countless opportunities to change that story for themselves. We believe young people can create their own futures by being supported to dream bigger and aim higher.

For a decade, MYZ has been the place in North Manchester for young people aged 8-19 (up to 25 with additional needs) to raise their aspirations and enjoy healthier, happier lives. Here, they can try new things that will send confidence skyrocketing, reach goals that will set them up to chase their dreams, and make them feel great about themselves right now.

Bagging skills, mates for life and the resilience to live life to the full – that is what we are all about.

We’re a safe space open when schools are shut, where young people will always have someone who has their back.

We provide our young people with somewhere to go, something to do, and someone to talk to.

MYZ provides a safe, attractive, accessible and affordable place where young people can discover a world of possibilities. SOMEWHERE TO GO. A safe place that’s open when schools are shut. A place that’s got: a warm welcome, a bright lively environment and somewhere young people can take part in positive activities, make new friends, learn new skills and have new experiences. SOMETHING TO DO. We offer over 20 different activities per evening. Whether it’s having a roller disco, personal training in the gym, earning a bike by committing to our bike maintenance course or writing and performing plays, plus there’s a climbing wall, boxing gym, music room and much more in between! SOMEONE TO TALK TO. From relationships with Youth Workers on session, to one to one support from volunteer mentors – every voice is heard. There’s a real emphasis on offering young people positive role models and supporting their needs. A WORTHWHILE CAUSE Manchester Youth Zone is located in Harpurhey, the 2nd worst ward in England for the effect of long term deprivation on children, just outside Manchester city centre. Many in the surrounding area are vulnerable to poor educational attainment, future worklessness and to developing antisocial or offending behaviour.
