For the first time WOAM is proud to support HumanityCrew.org, a renowned mental health aid organization focusing on direct intervention, providing mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in disaster risk response.
For this next expedition, its 13th to date, Women on a Mission (WOAM) is inviting 10 women from around the world from August 30th, 2024 to September 10th, 2024 to navigate the Norwegian Svalbard Archipelago, formerly called Spitsbergen through Tryhggamna, Ymerbukta,Nansen, Bore, Wahlenberg, and Svéa—six distinct glaciers, each unfolding its own set of challenges and breathtaking wonders.
More About Humanity Crew:
Founded in 2015 by Advocate Maria Jammal and Dr. Essam Daod, along with a team of dedicated professionals, Humanity Crew emerged from their experiences providing urgent medical treatment and psychological first aid to Syrian refugees on Lesvos Island. Our dream grew into a vision of creating physical hubs of mental health skills and awareness where comprehensive support services are provided to disaster affected communities. Now, Humanity Crew aims to scale their impact beyond their existing team by creating a global community network of trained staff and volunteers.
Their mandate and core commitments:
Humanity Crew has a decade of experience in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). Our swift and effective crisis response is complemented by the establishment of MHPSS hubs that serve as keystones for ongoing recovery efforts. We prioritise minimising the international footprint on the ground, focusing on community-based approaches for accountable and sustainable impacts.
Their methodology and what you fund:
Your generous support will directly contribute to Humanity Crew's emergency relief efforts, ensuring that vital mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) interventions reach those in urgent need. Here's how your donation will make a difference:
Deployment of Emergency Response Teams: A portion of your donation will be allocated to our emergency fund that deploys our highly trained emergency response teams to disaster-stricken areas. These teams provide immediate psychological first aid, trauma counselling, and emotional support to individuals and communities facing crises.
Establishment and Operation of Hubs: Your donation will help establish and operate hubs of local professionals in advance of crises and/or during them. These hubs serve as de-centralised disaster capacity grounded in mental health awareness and skill where individuals can access comprehensive MHPSS services, including psychological first aid, one to one counselling sessions, group therapy, and psychoeducation.
Training and Capacity Building: We will allocate resources to training local volunteers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders in MHPSS techniques.
