Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Between 17 June and 31 July 2024, I will attempt to complete a marathon in 7 bits (7x 6km runs to complete 42km since SSNaP turns 42 this year) in support of the charity, SSNAP (Support for the Sick Newborn And their Parents). I am doing this as my Duke of Edinburgh volunteering activity. SSNAP is a charity that is close to my family’s hearts as we have lived experience of the amazing work that they do. 9 years ago, my youngest brother, Michael Jr (or Juju as he is affectionately known), was born 7 weeks early and spent his first few weeks in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Words cannot express the amazing care Juju received while he was in the unit and the fantastic support, we as a family received during what was a trying time. Juju's is an inspiring success story as he has grown to be a clever, happy, gifted, sporty, and overall wonderful little guy whose beaming, infectious smile and cheekiness lights up our world. We can't imagine a world without him, neither do we want to! The work done by SSNAP in supporting premature and sick new-born babies, their parents, and the staff that care for them is out of this world and I hope you will support me in raising funds for this worthy cause.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast, and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send any unwanted emails. Thank you for reading this story and for your support. I hope that you will share this with your family and friends so that they can support us too.

Thanks in advance!

In the UK, 1 in 10 babies need specialist care at birth. SSNAP supports sick & premature babies and their families in the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Imagine your newborn baby needing specialist care at birth. Instead of those very special days getting to know your baby as a family, you’re catapulted into an unfamiliar world of incubators, wires, medical tests and interventions. While your baby has specialist treatment, we provide emotional and practical support to help you through the trauma & upheaval. We’re there to help families cope, and provide state-of-the-art medical equipment and nursing expertise that could save babies lives.
