Story

As fathers of sons who are all the same age, the 'members' of The My Left Foot Society we were brought together watching our sons play sport at school and through their participation at our local rugby club (Fylde).

Always looking for an excuse to get together, we decided over a few shandies that undertaking the National 3 Peaks in 24 Hours would be a worthwhile challenge and that due to personal experiences within the group, raising some much needed funds for our local Children's Hospice would make it all the more worthwhile.

The groups name 'My Left Foot Society' came about due to an incident on that particular challenge but that story is for another day!

Since that first adventure we have attempted (and succeeded!) another fundraising challenge every 2 years and have raised money for causes close to our hearts including Brian House, Trinity Hospice and the MND Association. Details of these challenges are on this page.

So far we have completed the following challenges for Charity:-

National 3 Peaks in 24 Hours - Brian House Children's Hospice - 1 Day

Canoe the Caledonian Canal - Brian House / Trinity Hospice - 1 Week - Wild Camping

Canoe the length of the River Shannon (RoI) - Motor Neurone Disease Association - 1 Week - Wild Camping

Cycle the North Coast 500 - Myeloma UK - 1 Week - Wild Camping

Our 2023 challenge is to walk / trek around the Isle of Man - a 100 mile path called Raad ny Foillan or 'Way of the Gull'.

We will sail by ferry from Heysham, Lancashire on 7th October and commence the walk / trek and at first light on Sunday 8th October, travelling back to Heysham on the ferry on Saturday 14th October. We will again be wild camping during the challenge - wash / bathe in the sea and sleep under canvas!

Again borne out of personal experiences, we have chosen to support two charities on this challenge , one of which is https://www.sands.org.uk/

If you can spare a few pounds to sponsor us, I'm sure that Sands will be delighted, as will we.

Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, operates across the UK: supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby; working in partnership with health professionals to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care; and promoting improvements in practice and funding research that could help to reduce the loss of babies’ lives.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Joe, Simon, Chris, Mike, Eric, Ian N, Mike, Jim and Ian G who together make up the 'My Left Society'.
