Story
In 1961, Mrs. Gussie Hingson, wife of BBF Founder Dr. Robert Hingson, met Victoria Tolbert, the wife of former Vice President William R. Tolbert of Liberia. During this visit, it became apparent to Mrs. Hingson that countries such as Liberia lack adequate educational materials in many if not all of their schools; and it was a result of this conversation that BBFs Education Program was formed. One year later, in 1962, BBFs first collection of 100,000 community-donated school texts was sent to Liberia.
The program has since grown to working with local communities to help repair schools damaged by hurricanes and other natural calamities such as earthquakes. BBF has also provided solar panels for a school in Malawi and other initiatives include working with local communities to provide refurbished computers along with educational software to students; with the overall objective being to help positively impact their educational development.
