Morocco needs us.

On 8 September 2023, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The earthquake’s epicentre was located in Al-Haouz province in the High Atlas region of the mountains, around 75km (44 miles) southwest of Marrakesh.

Within the impacted areas of the remote Atlas Mountains, accessibility is a challenge. Widespread destruction has isolated the mountain communities there, while in Marrakech, the earthquake has also left its mark, causing significant damage in parts of the old city and Medina.

The death toll is almost 2,500 at the time of writing, with almost as many injured. These numbers are sadly expected to rise.

Displaced families in the region are now in need of immediate food, water, and shelter.

In response, Much Better Adventures have committed to donating 5% of revenues for the rest of September towards the cause, up to £10,000.

We have also committed a minimum of £5,000 for immediate aid to support the response team on the ground.

We have chosen to support the High Atlas Foundation, who work within the hardest-hit High Atlas region. They have years of expertise in delivering crucial aid to these remote villages and are uniquely equipped with the ideal toolkit for sourcing and dispersing vital provisions, including non-perishable food, water, and blankets.

Every penny on top of our £5,000 raised on JustGiving will help us to support these many families who need us now more than ever.

By helping the families in the High Atlas we are also helping to preserve these amazing destinations that we hope we can all go back to sometime soon. These families are the stewards of the wild places we love to visit, and getting them back up and running is vital to supporting the wild places we all so love to explore.
