7th Goodmayes Explorers Gaza Emergency Appeal
Fundraising for Islamic Relief
Story
On Sunday the 17th of December, 7th Goodmayes Explorers will walk the length of a marathon in London. That's 42km or 26miles!!
They have chosen this distance to reflect the arduous journey that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, many of whom are teenagers, just like them, have had to make whilst fleeing violence and being forcibly displaced from North to South of the Strip.
Over the last 8 weeks, we have witnessed heartbreaking scenes unfolding live before our eyes.
As Muslim scouts, we are bound by both our faith, and by the principles of scouting to respond to the cries for help from our fellow scouts in Gaza. It is also important that our young people are empowered to play an active role in supporting the weak and the needy.
The situation on the ground:
- Gaza has endured intense and indiscriminate bombings, resulting in the loss of thousands of innocent lives, including children, medical personnel, journalists, and UN staff.
- The population of Gaza is densely packed into a small area, and the recent conflict has forced thousands to become internally displaced.
- Over half of the people in Gaza are children who have grown up in a besieged land and faced repeated military operations.
- There are thousands of pregnant women and chronically ill patients unable to access necessary care.
- Essential resources like food water and electricity is severely limited, causing immense suffering.
- Food and medical supplies are critically low, 2/3s of hospitals and health care centres have closed and the remaining few are overwhelmed and underresourced to provide adequate care.
Islamic Relief:
Islamic Relief has a long history of providing aid in Gaza and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. They are on the ground right now and their teams are currently working to deliver food and medical supplies where they are needed most. They are also stockpiling aid to get in as soon as aid corridors are made available.
The situation in Gaza is dire, and the people there urgently need our support.
