Walk The Wight Challenge, 12 April 2024
Walk the Wight 2024
Campaign by The Eikon Charity (RCN 1109190)
Help us to raise much needed funds for children and young people in Surrey as we take on the challenge of 35 miles in under 10 hours.

Story

Eikon is helping young people in Surrey to feel safe, heard and supported.

They believe in prevention, and where that's not been possible, in helping early on, before a concern becomes a crisis.

Eikon works with young people in schools and communities across Surrey, working with and through partners to deliver services that improve young people's physical and emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Walk the Wight Challenge:

A group of volunteers, whom participated in a previous challenge - the Ring of Steel, are set to walk the Isle of Wight.

Eikon's Walk the Wight Challenge consists of travelling the diameter of the Island, taking on route the challenging coastal paths from East to West.

Eikon has made it more challenging by adding in extra hill climbs totalling 4,712 feet. This is 300 feet higher then Ben Nevis, Eikon's previous fundraising event.

The challenge is to walk the total distance of 35 miles in under 10 hours.

The money raised from a previous challenge by the same volunteers; The Ring of Steel Challenge, that concluded climbing Ben Nevis, allowed Eikon to continue their vital work with young people and their parents. It made a huge difference to the workings and lives of so many young adults across surrey. An equivalent of supporting 330 young people through group support sessions or 81 young people for 8x one-one support sessions each

The money raised from this challenge will enable Eikon to continue to their great work in so many ways and will mean that they can offer this ongoing support to young people to overcome setbacks and achieve their full potential.

We have a practice walk on 24/2/24 through the Surrey Hills, followed by a longer practice walk in March in preparation for the final challenge.
