Peace for cancer care: Cancer does not stop for war.
Cancer is now a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly one in six deaths with almost 10 million deaths globally in 2020. The majority of these deaths happen in low- and middle- income countries.
Two billion people in the world live in countries affected by conflict and healthcare is often severely disrupted in these areas.
If not diagnosed early and treated in a timely manner cancer survival rates are lower. Vital infrastructure, manpower and supply chains are often affected in conflict zones leaving people with interrupted or no treatment.
The song "More Than Fairy Tales" was written in 2005 by Junior Eurovision Song Contest performer Joni Fuller. The song has been re-worked by Jasmine Foxall, a 19-year-old singer-songwriter and producer, Beth Goode and others. Sudanese and Ukrainian singers are joined on the single by double platinum English singer-songwriter, Newton Faulkner, alongside Jasmine and over 20 people from the UK who have been affected by cancer with British rapper Blackk Chronical also featuring. The initiative has been led by British oncologist, Dr Susie Stanway, executively produced by Mizan Rahman and supported by London Global Cancer Week (https://www.lgcw.org.uk).
The song hopes to shine a light on the plight of people affected by cancer in war zones. Funds raised will go to The Challenge Fund (charity number 1079181) and will be used to support people affected by cancer in Ukraine and Sudan. Thank you for donating.
