Story
I am walking to raise money for The Alzeimer's Society, in memory of our dear father, John whose love of walking and the great outdoors, was cruelly taken away from him by dementia. He was a vicar and often preached about nature and the environment. He used to run an annual pilgrimage for around 2,000 people, which went into the hills around Dorchester on Thames. As many of you know, he sadly died in May this year. Seeing him gradually loose his walking and mobility was one of the most painful things to witness. It took his freedom away, of simply being able to step outside and enjoy nature and the great outdoors. It had always been a lifelong daily pleasure of his and is something we grew up with and love doing as a family.
I will be walking alongside my good friend Jeanette and her sister Debbie, who sadly also lost their father to this terrible disease, in April 2020. We are walking as a team, for our 'Unforgettable Fathers.' Please join us if you would like to come and walk! It starts near London Bridge at 11:30am
We are raising money in the hope that charities such as The Alzheimer's Society, can in the future help prevent others from suffering from this dreadful disease.
Dementia is the UKs biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and currently there is no cure. We know it is scary but we must confront the biggest health and social care challenge of our time. We owe it to the 900,000 people across the UK currently living with dementia to campaign for change, whilst providing vital day-to-day support. By taking part and raising money, or donating to someone who is, you are helping to do this.
Once you donate, JustGiving sends your money directly to Alzheimer's Society you don't need to do anything and it's the most efficient way to fundraise. So, who will you walk for? #MemoryWalk
Thank you in advance for your support. Monica xxx
