Story

On New Year’s Eve 2024 I was one of the 55 people a day who was being informed that they had Lymphoma. Never did I think at 25 years old I would be hearing the words, stage 3 cancer. In which should have been a time where I was necking my first drink, making some questionable New Year’s resolutions, was actually a time where the rest of my life and my families was soon to be changed.

I was advised of a charity called Lymphoma action, who I was told to get in touch with, read their booklets and visit their website to see if any of their services would benefit me. My nurse at the time suggested their buddy service in which I could be paired with someone who was a similar age, had been/going through the same sort of journey and treatment plan. Within 20 minutes, Sharon from Lymphoma Action called me, spoke to me for well over 45 minutes, not only going through their services, but offering her kind words and support, which at that time was what I needed. It was then, that I thought, you know what, these guys are alright!

I had found myself with 2 different treatment plans being offered at 2 very different facilities and the team offered their opinions, their support and their advice, even mentioning reaching out to their Lymphoma Facebook page where thousands of people like me would post their thoughts, feelings and diagnosis’ just trying to find a place where their questions or thoughts could be heard. It was then I put together a post and within minutes I had 40+ comments from people’s personal experiences, strangers advice and just general well wishing comments, then of course I continued using the page for any questions I had, and more importantly to me, how to navigate life without hair; which was such a huge part to get through, and over losing. Again, met with such lovely, helpful comments all from strangers! Some people who even now, I am speaking to daily, which no doctor, friend or family member could replicate, as let’s be honest, unless you have been or are going through it; what do you say to someone with cancer?

At a time in my life where I was so clueless it was all made that bit easier by the team at Lymphoma Action and for that I will be forever grateful.

Me, my friends and family have all signed up to the 2025 Bridges of London walk on the 22nd June 2025, which consists of walking 7 miles, crossing 10 Bridges, all to raise money and awareness for Lymphoma. So I am asking for anything you can spare from pennies to pounds to help the next person who gets that news so the team at Lymphoma Action can carry on their amazing work. Even if you can’t donate, please read, share and visit the link below to keep raising awareness for a terrible disease.

Thank you and more importantly…
