This year the Brockwell Swimmers club will again be raising money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute with three relay teams attempting to cross the Channel.

On August 2nd, myself and a team of 5 others will be one of the groups attempting this epic mission. Many of my friends and family will know that I've already been training toward this for a few months and I'm simultaneously excited and nervous to give it a go!

A really important element of this swim for me is acknowledging the crazy thing we're doing in the current political climate. We are in the incredibly privileged position of swimming to France mainly for personal sporting achievement, but many people everyday travel in the opposite direction on small, overcrowded boats, and risk their lives to reach the UK in search of asylum.

The RNLI are engaged in a significant amount of work in the channel, rescuing people from unseaworthy vessels- they do so without judgment or prejudice. They are a completely volunteer let charity and have saved the lives of many men, women and children in extremely dangerous situations.

Any support for the RNLI would be so appreciated by myself and the whole team. This is something that is going to be a huge challenge for all of us, but not as challenging as some of the traumatic experiences people less fortune than ourselves have had in the same stretch of water.
