Story
Minnetonka Middle School East 6th graders are doing a Global Studies unit on the Water Crisis. Students have learned about fresh water shortages throughout the world, causes and solutions to fresh water crises, and the effects water shortages have on an individual, family, community, and beyond. Our goal is to raise awareness about the world around us and foster citizenship amongst our students. Students are taking action in an effort to spread the word and make a difference.
We are partnering with Haiti Outreach, a local NGO, whose focus is to bring sustainable access to clean water and sanitation, including hygiene and education to the people of rural Haiti. The 6th grade students have “adopted” the community of Roche Delmas in the northern region of Haiti and have a goal to raise $18,000 to build them a well that will provide the community with clean, safe water. https://www.haitioutreach.org/
This year’s MME Water Walk for Haiti is May 12 from 11:00-2:00. Students will be outside walking or running laps to earn money from sponsorships and hosting booths where they will be selling handmade goods and items. Please consider volunteering for this fun-filled event: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E094EABA92AA02-mmewater
