Milos hated running but signed up for London Marathon to raise awareness of kidney cancer and help Wessex Cancer Support

London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·
If you’re reading this, I’m already halfway through my goal. If you bear with me to the end and act on it, there’s the other half.
What you see on the left side of the cover photo (and in the next paragraph) are some statistics about kidney cancer. They are just statistics until you’re the one impacted. Me and my family were impacted as my father recently lost his battle to this horrible disease after it relapsed, to the point it cannot be cured. We all fought until the last day and in moments like these families need all the support they can get, from medical to emotional.
There are 13,300 kidney cancer cases in the UK every year, with incident rates increasing almost 90% since the early 1990s. What’s important is that 34% of kidney cancer cases are preventable especially if we tackle some of the key risk factors, namely obesity (cause of 24% of the cases) and smoking (cause of 13% of the cases).
Never being a fan of running myself I decided to take on an ultimate challenge at the London TCS Marathon in April 2024, and what you see on the right side of the cover photo is me after a 19k prep run. I want to raise awareness about kidney cancer and to help Wessex Cancer Support, a small charity providing free and local emotional support to anyone affected by cancer in Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight.
This is where I need your help. You can help me by:
- Spreading the word about kidney cancer and/or Wessex Cancer Support if you know anyone impacted by cancer in Wessex. Encourage yourself or someone you know to change their lifestyle by becoming more active and adopting healthier diet and to reduce smoking, swap it for a safer alternative or ideally completely stop it. Lead the way and be someone’s role model
- Donating here to help Wessex Cancer Support help impacted families deal with cancer, because it takes much more than just medical therapy.
Thank you very much, I’m forever grateful for your support and it means more than you think!
