Story
At 4,167m, our team will summit the highest peak in North Africa - Mount Toubkal - with its iconic triangular summit post! In preparation for the 6 day hike, I will attempt some other fitness challenges in the hopes that they help me prepare for my trek!
Collectively, we have decided to take on this challenge for Marie Curie, the UK’s leading end of life charity. Marie Curie supports people affected by any terminal illness, such as dementia (including Alzheimer’s), motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s, heart diseases and advanced cancer. This is a charity very close to my own heart, with my lovely Grandpa being diagnosed with vascular dementia. Seeing the effect of such a disease first hand, and also witnessing the intricate and constant care required has opened my eyes to the importance of charities such as Marie Curie who, similarly, provide such integral care. Equally, I lost my Grandad Pete this year and know that Marie Curie supported him at the end of his life. I therefore know firsthand the importance this charity and the vital effect they have.
Every five minutes someone in the UK dies without the care and support they need.
The average age that someone experiences their first bereavement is at 20 years old, meaning that for many people across the UK this may happen whilst at University. And with your help we can support them through it.
