A group of 17 of us (listed below) have decided to run the Manchester Half Marathon in order to raise important funds for The Christie. The Christie charity funds life-changing and potentially life-saving projects that will benefit cancer patients both now and in the future.
This fundraising effort is extra personal to us after the amazing work that The Christie have done in supporting my wife, Laura Hudson (“Marge”). In November 2023, at age 33 and whilst 36 weeks pregnant, Laura was diagnosed with Stage 2, Grade 3 breast cancer. Less than a week later, she had given birth to our beautiful daughter, Aurora Rose, and just 3 weeks after that started 12 gruelling rounds of chemotherapy treatment. She has since had a mastectomy and reconstruction to remove the cancer found and is also having radiotherapy, with all of this treatment being given by The Christie NHS Trust.
The great news is that Laura's treatment has been a great success, with an apparent complete treatment of the cancer that was in her body. She would be the first person to say that the treatment she has received has been exceptional - from the caring staff at The Christie at Wigan who looked after her throughout chemotherapy, to the surgeons and radiologists who have also provided her incredible care and treatment. They have made a terrible situation bearable and we are forever grateful for what they have done for Laura.
If you can please spare a donation to The Christie and to support us all in completing this half marathon, that would be much appreciated!
