I lost my Mum, Rachel Evans, to a brain tumour 7 years ago and she's still missed dearly by family and friends.
An unexplained headache in June 2017, lead to swift trip to the hospital revealed a large tumour requiring a swift surgery to stunt it's growth. This dramatically changed our families life, and with my sister Lauren still in college I took on the responsibility of being her primary carer from July 2017. Looking back and reflecting, I never actually realised what this entailed both on a medical and personal level.
Medically for Mum this would be a slow deterioration, but having been around her day in, day out, this isn't something I or Lauren perhaps saw as sudden and as more of a gradual decline. On a personal level, it'd be various journeys to appointments, taxiing from hospital to doctors, and essentially becoming a PA to the most sociable person on the planet !
After a challenging few months, my family and I were very fortunate to receive support/comfort from Arthur Rank hospice at the end of my mums battle with cancer. She stayed there for 2 months, allowing my family the time to savour our remaining time with mum, in a wonderful setting without us needing to worry. The hospice does truly amazing work for families when they need it most and I'll always indebted to them.
I'm looking to support the hospice by building upon a donation by my brilliant sister Lauren who completed the London Marathon in 2023.
I'm running the Prague Marathon on the 4th of May, to raise money towards Arthur Rank Hospice and the work they do. Anything you can donate towards this target would be much appreciated.
My beautiful girlfriend Var is also raising money towards Bowel Cancer UK for her Dad which is here - https://www.justgiving.com/page/mhairi-anderson-praguemarathon?fbclid=IwY2xjawHrxm5leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHWCdnrQuGTk5zuomvpc1YU5ctQQKNzJrw659QJ9MHCsVDX_v1MgbO91aMw_aem_IeHSVKmIE7vfYu87gb3g5g, please have a read and donate if you can.
