Story
In April of this year Janet Rooney lost her battle with cancer only days after her 60th birthday.
She was my wife, mother of 3 wonderful children and my best friend.
In her memory and to support the fight against this dreadful disease which affects so many people I decided to walk the Camino de Santiago a walk of 500 miles which starts in France, crosses the Pyrenees and ends in Santiago in North West Spain taking a minimum of 35 days to complete
I was quickly joined on this trip by my good friends Nigel Tobias, who I climbed Kilimanjaro with, Paul Whitehurst and David Brooks.
We want to fund a two-year "Clinical Research Fellow" specifically intended to work on making a noticeable difference in the outcome of HPB cancers which currently have only a 1 in 4 survival rate of a year or more and just 7% of sufferers living longer than five years.
The cost of the two-year position is c. £100,000, which we are determined to achieve.
Me, Nigel, Paul and David will pay our own costs, of travel, accommodation, food and kit, to guarantee that the full 100% of monies raised will go to the charity.
In addition to this amazing cause, we will also be joined on this journey by 'Freddie's Friends' Bear. ‘Freddie's Friends' Bear’ supports bereaved parents following the loss of a baby/child, and we will be making a donation to this special charity.
Thank you for supporting us.
