From the Streets to the Finish Line: My Salvation Army Journey

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
Over 20 years ago, life looked very different for me. As a child, I faced the harsh realities of homelessness on the streets of Dublin. It was a time filled with uncertainty, fear, and struggle. A time when hope seemed like a distant dream. But in the midst of that darkness, the Salvation Army was there, offering me the support and the compassion I desperately needed.
They gave me more than just a place to rest, they gave me the tools I needed to rebuild my life. From warm meals to emotional support, they helped me find my footing and start anew. The unwavering kindness of Major Howard Russell and his belief in my potential changed the trajectory of my life, and I will forever be grateful.
Today, I will start to prepare to run the London Marathon and reflect on how far I’ve come. Running 26.2 miles is no small feat, but it’s nothing compared to the challenges I faced as a child. This marathon is my way of giving back, of saying thank you to the Salvation Army and in particular incredible work they do.
Every step I take during the marathon is for those who are still struggling, for the people who need a warm meal and a safe place to stay, and for the hope that the Salvation Army provides. By supporting my run, you’ll be helping them continue their life-changing work.
Join me in making a difference. Together, we can help bring hope to those who need it most. Thank you for supporting this cause that is so close to my heart.
