Story
A cause close to Mick's heart is the education centre and pre-school in Tanzania that his daughter, Jess, set up in 2004. In Mick's final hours, Jess promised him she would renovate the playground there in his memory so he could always hear the sound of the children laughing on the roundabout.
Mick is well loved by the staff and students in Tanzania. He visited the centre just after it was built, and has supported it ever since both financially and professionally. Mick helped Jess to arrange a teacher exchange programme bringing 5 teachers over to the UK to train at Mick's school with the support of fellow colleagues, with 2 teachers staying in Mick and Helen's home. More recently he participated in a fundraiser running 5k a day, which he trained for and completed whilst battling metastatic cancer. Mick was immensely proud of the education centre and the difference it continues to make to a whole community in Tanzania. He believed that education can transform lives and dedicated his working life to this.
Your donation will be used to renovate our highly popular playground. Mick would have been delighted for it to be a safe and happy space again for all the local children to use. We plan to install a plaque there in his memory. If more money is raised, we will update this page with our list of key priorities so you can see what the money is to be spent on, and the direct impact you will be having.
If you would like to become a regular giver, receive our newsletter or get involved, please speak to Jess.
