Story
Hello lovely people as some of you may know I worked for The Shelter Trust for 12 years and I know there are a lot of preconceived ideas about the homeless, and this adversely affects the donations they receive.
I can honestly say that some of the most amazing people I have met in my life were service users at Shelter, many of whom were teenagers and young adults. I heard life stories that would break your heart but I also saw people rebuilding their lives with the support and care of the staff at Shelter.
So why this challenge? The South West Coast Path, is the longest in the UK at 630 miles long and equivalent to 4 ascents and descents of Everest. Some of you may have read The Salt Path, the true story of Raynor Winn, a middle aged women ( like me ) who loses her home and business at the same time that her husband gets a terminal diagnosis and they end up walking the Path together, I was inspired by the book so decided to walk the path myself. But why now? Well, I recently discovered someone I had lost track of but who gave me wonderful support at a time in my life when I needed it had become homeless and needed the support of the Shelter Trust and at the same time, my wonderful son Alfie (age 13) went on a school trip to Madrid and was surprised by the number of homeless on the streets so he used his savings to give food and money to the homeless people he came across.
So together we are going to attempt our biggest challenge ever carrying all our kit and camping along the way.
We would be so grateful if you could support us with a donation,
Thank you x
