Story

What's my challenge?

I will be trekking for 12 hours non-stop for 42km / 26 miles across the South Downs to raise money for Twins Trust on 22nd June 2024.

That is the same distance as Dover to Calais but climbing a mountain at the same time due to elevation and terrain.

I need your support!

Please show your support by sponsoring me, all donations will go to Twins Trust who provide support for families expecting twins, triplets or more and in particular, provide unique support for bereaved families.

Why am I doing it (our story)?

In 2019 my wife Gosia and I learnt that we were expecting identical twin boys. After announcing this joyful news, the doctor swiftly asked us:

Are you aware that this is a high-risk pregnancy?

We were then told that we would be having more check-ups due to various risk factors including Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), which can affect some identical twin pregnancies and can have serious consequences for the babies. We were also informed about Twins Trust charity supporting parents of multiples in the UK.

Of course, we were excited, and we kept our spirits up the whole time despite being aware of complications & greater risks.

The consultants closely monitored the pregnancy and we quickly got used to attending regular scans. During one of the appointments, we learnt that our boys were affected by TTTS, and we were given an option of either induced labour or a laser surgery. This was an extremely stressful decision, and we had a lot of concern. We reached out to Twins Trust, who helped us go through these challenging moments - a support for which we are very grateful.

We opted for the laser surgery, which thankfully was successful and helped to prolong the pregnancy for a couple of weeks. Henryk & Roman were born prematurely through an emergency C-section.

They spent a few weeks in hospital which felt like a lifetime. Fast forward to today, they are almost five and very proud pupils of St Luke's Primary School in Brighton. Healthy and happy kids with so much energy, that they are hard to keep up with 😊

Every day and especially on their birthday, we acknowledge that we have been extremely lucky, and we feel grateful for all the support we received from the medical staff, our families and friends and of course Twins Trust!

Help me support Twins Trust Bereavement Service who help families going through very difficult life changing events.

Thank you!

PS. Please share any tips, as I have never done anything (even close to) a 42km trek before... 😊
