Story
A cup of tea never made anything worse.
..Or did it?
Transform Trade, the charity supporting fair trade globally, has reported that:
- The average tea worker earns 2p for every box of 80 tea bags sold for £2 in UK supermarkets.
- Nine out of 10 hospital patients from tea plantations in India are malnourished.
- There have even been reports of sexual exploitation on tea farms that supply some of the UK's most popular brands in Kenyan tea farms.
What we're doig about it
At MDTea, we care about the health and wellbeing of the people who grow and harvest the tea we all drink.
We are dedicated to raising awareness of the fundamental role workers and growers play in the international tea industry. They deserve to be cherished, nourished, recognized, and rewarded.
We are supporting 'Transform Trade' to help communities exploited by tea estates, helping them demand change.
Additionally, we are committed to assisting smallholder tea growers in adapting to climate change, selling their produce for a fair price, and improving their working conditions.
The participation of our Managing Director, Michael Taggart, in the Lisbon Marathon on October 6th, 2024 is an opportunity for us to advocate for this cause and raise funds to support these initiatives. We aim to raise £1,000 to contribute towards this important work.
