Story
Hello and welcome to my Just Giving page! On the 14th May I am running the Copenhagen marathon. This will be my first marathon and will be raising funds for Diabetes UK. This cause is particularly close to my heart because my daughter, Isla was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in early 2022 just before her second birthday.
Isla has been an absolute superstar throughout her journey with diabetes. After receiving fantastic treatment and training from The Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital we quickly entered the world of carb counting, multiple daily finger pricks and insulin pens before meals. After a couple of months understanding the basics of diabetes management first hand, Isla transitioned onto a Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitor and Medtronic 780g Insulin pump. These technologies have made a huge difference in Isla's quality of life, allowing for us to monitor Isla's glucose levels at all times throughout the day then administer insulin through a pump, providing the greatest opportunity to maintain Isla's levels to a healthy average. We are grateful for these technologies every day.
As a family, we have also received tremendous support from Diabetes UK. Their wealth of information and personal experiences have helped us navigate the challenges of living with diabetes over the past year.
Through my marathon run, I hope to raise awareness of diabetes and Diabetes UK's offerings. In particular, I want to highlight the warning signs in youth, which are often overlooked. Parents should look our for the four T's - Toilet, Thirsty, Tired & Thinner - Together, are important indicators that should not be ignored.
I am excited to be ticking the Copenhagen marathon off my bucket list while raising funds for a great cause. Please consider making a donation to help support Diabetes UK, every pound raised will go towards funding vital research, providing education and support for those living with diabetes.
