Story
On the 8th October 2023, an accident whilst skydiving led to my being airlifted by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to University Hospital Southampton for emergency surgery on my spine.
A road ambulance was quoting ‘at least a few hours’ to respond and as I lay in a field wondering whether I’d be able to last the time I heard that the Air Ambulance had been re-tasked as it was flying back to its base and a few minutes later had landed by me and I was being treated by their amazing medics, Simon and Claire.
In the words of the doctor in Resus, ‘you shouldn’t be able to walk again, your spine’s exploded’.
Grit, determination, a sense of humour and stubbornness got me walking quickly and working hard to regain strength and fitness and so I entered Ironman Barcelona with a view to trying to raise some funds to support the great work that the air ambulance do.
An Ironman isn’t easy. 3.8km swim, 180km cycle, 42.2km run which has to be completed in 15 hours on the Barcelona course.
I don’t expect it not to hurt!
I have fully funded all aspects of the race so any donations received will entirely go to Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
Thank you for your support.
Saving Lives Through Your Support.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance brings an advanced critical care team to people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight when they need it most.
Highly skilled crews of Doctors, Paramedics and Pilots can be at the scene of an incident within minutes.
It currently costs in excess of £15,000 a day to maintain our life saving service, and it is only thanks to the generosity of the communities that we serve that we are able keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives.
