Story

I'm running the Cambridge Half Marathon 2024 to raise funds for Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland. This is a cause close to my heart (no pun intended) as my father suffered from this life-threatening disease in October 2020 in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Thanks to the exceptional care he received at the Royal Brompton Hospital in West London, he made a full recovery. However, many families aren't as fortunate.

Aortic Dissection affects around 6 in 100,000 people and is usually fatal if left untreated. Shockingly, one-third of patients with Aortic Dissection are actively treated for a different, incorrect diagnosis. Mortality for patients with acute Type A Aortic Dissection is 1-2% an hour after symptom onset and 48% of patients do not make it to hospital alive. Left untreated, the estimated mortality rate is 50% in the first 48 hours.

The 'Think Aorta' campaign aims to raise awareness and improve diagnosis of this condition worldwide. By donating to this cause, you can help save lives and support ongoing research efforts.

Please join me in making a difference by contributing towards my target amount. Your donation will go towards funding vital research and supporting those affected by Aortic Dissection.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
