We made a difference
Thank you to my generous friends who helped me raise funds for Crisis at Christmas over the last few weeks.
As some of you donated anonymously, I am sending this to everyone with my grateful thanks and on behalf of “Crisis”
Quote from Crisis CE Matt Downie “... And last year, 75% of hotel guests came off the streets and did not return to rough sleeping – which is a life-saving impact to make in such a short space of time.”
Your generosity, my friends, led to a figure of £2,915 plus a further £675 in gift aid and Charity Foundation Cheques ; a final total this year of £3,590, which by my reckoning paid for over 120 guest/nights at Christmas for those who otherwise may well have been on the streets. THANK YOU!!
We cared for nearly 250 guests in the hotel where I volunteered and in London Hotels alone the figure was around 500 (although it could have been twice that number). They received, if they wished, haircuts, manicures, pedicures, 3 meals a day, internet room, art, music, dancing, advice and above all, their own room for a night or more and a chance to come off rough sleeping!!
The ten-hour night shifts were tough on stamina, and probably led to this cold that seems to be doing the rounds and which led to my having to opt out of the final shift and take refuge in my bed for a couple of days.
I wish you all a healthy, friendly, caring, and enjoyable year. THANK YOU AGAIN!
