This year we will be raising funds for British Heart Foundation and local charity Missed A Beat who install defibrillators in vital places like schools, park, public areas around County Durham. We have chosen these charity's because When Eric was 13 years old his Father died of a heart attack, years later Erics brother also died of a heart attack age 52. Michael Fitzgerald's brother David has a heart condition called Atrial Fibrillation, he has undergone many different procedures and surgeries whilst also taking multiple kinds of medication to help with his condition.
Michael Fitzgerald's friend Terry died 5 years ago of a heart attack age 52. On the 17/04/2024, A lady had a heart attack in Mikes Fish Bar in Newton Aycliffe. Eric is the manager of the Fish and Chip Shop. The lady was immediately given CPR. Eric ran to get the nearest Defibrillator. The defibrillator was used and saved the ladies life.
The British Heart Foundation fund around £100 million of research each year into all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that cause them. Heart diseases. Stroke. Vascular dementia. Diabetes. They're all connected.
