Story
So, this little adventure involves cycling to Unst, in the Shetland Islands. It's a bit of a cheat, truth be told as I will be travelling hundreds of miles by boat, starting with the Sula from NB to Anstruther.
Then, it a cycle across Fife and camp at Tayport.
Day 2 starts with crossing the Tay Bridge, maybe a stop off at Arbroath Abbey and stay over at Edzell.
Day 3, I'll be most likely walking up a very steep hill then freewheeling to Banchory and hopefully an easy ride into Aberdeen to get the overnight boat too Lerwick.
In Shetland, I'll take it a bit easier, head out West day 1, overnight in Yellow on Tuesday and hopefully into Unst on Wednesday. I'll head on to Burrafirth, my final destination, where I will abandon my bike.
I'm not at all confident about this, so don't be surprised if I bail half way through.
So what's this al about? Well, I've had it in mind for a while, but thought I would give it a go and try and raise some money for Glenn Campbell's Brain Power fund in aid of Brain Tumour Research.
In 2023, while out for a regular weekend cycle ride, Glenn Campbell, journalist, BBC political correspondent and generally good guy, was approaching his brunch break at the Lanterne Rouge Cafe, when he crashed off his bike. A nasty injury with multiple broken ribs, Glenn had a brain scan which revealed a rare form of brain tumour. Possibly, this cycle accident has led to the relatively early diagnosis of this tumour.
He has since embarked on determined effort to raise funds for his charitable cause Brain Power for Brian Tumour Research.
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. This is unacceptable!
I am fundraising for Brain Tumour Research as they are the only national charity dedicated to funding long-term, sustainable research in the UK. Please help me fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.
Funds raised by our Brain Power Team are being donated to Brain Tumour Research for the purpose of establishing a Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence..
