Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. My name is Michael and I am a keen walker from Fife in Scotland.

In recent times it has been hard for me and my family for a number of reasons. I have suffered from sciatica as well as the loss of loved ones. We have lost my brother-in-law Dominik, our much beloved dog Sheldon, my Auntie Sandra and now my Grandparents too. Its been quite a lot to deal with and has been a bit of a struggle at times for us all.

I have found challenging myself to walks for charity has helped me to cope with my grief as well as turning a bad experience into a more positive memory. It really focuses your mind on what is important in life and appreciating the time that we have spent with those who are unfortunately no longer with us, as well as cherishing time with loved ones now and really making the most of life while we can. The exercise also really helps me with my sciatica and minimises my pain.

I wanted to come up with a new challenge for myself to celebrate life and remember all my loved ones. They have played such an important part in my life and I just wanted to show my appreciation and thanks to them.

I have never done the whole of Fifes Pilgrim way and thought this would be quite apt due to Fifes importance in my life. I have grown up here and spent so many happy times with family and friends where I call home. All my Grandparents lived here for most of their lives and I met my lovely Wife here too.

Pilgrimages were often taken as a way of proving your faith and I thought it would be nice to take my own pilgrimage with their memories in mind. Prove my faith to living life with kindness and making memories with those we love.

Fifes pilgrims way is a 55mile or 90km route which takes you from either Culross or North Queensferry to St Andrews through the heart of Fife. It passes through so many places that have had importance to me either through work or family living there. It would be a perfect way in my mind to honour them. I would leave North Queensferry as my Grandparents loved it there and then follow the route. My plan is to try and complete it within 24 hours on the 29th April. This would have been my Gran and Grandad Hamiltons 75th Wedding anniversary.

I have chosen Alzheimers Scotland as they help so many people through this horrible disease which takes away what is so important to me and so many others...our memories! They also support the families as well as the person through an extremely difficult time and I wanted to try and contribute a little to their ongoing work. It would also be a big thanks to them for their support to me and our family when my Grandad was suffering from this too.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

If you could donate anything at all to help this wonderful charity it would be much appreciated. It may be nice for you to say who you miss too and my pilgrimage can be in their memory as well. Totally up to you. Any donations are appreciated and thank you for your support.
