In February this year we lost my Grandad after him suffering with Alzheimer`s and dementia for 7years. I wanted to do something to raise money for this charity which helped both him and my Gran through this and helps many others too.

In 1947, My Grandad came to Scotland from Raphoe, Donegal to work and met my Gran before settling here.

I thought that a good way to both challenge myself and honour him would be to retrace his steps and walk to Raphoe from Cardenden. It is a fair trek, so I will need probably about a week to do it. I will get the ferry across the Irish sea, but will walk the rest. I am looking to walk from Cardenden on Saturday 10th June to the Road Bridge before walking across the country to Ayr and down the coastal path to Cairnryan. After the ferry to Belfast in Northern Ireland I will look to walk to Antrim and on to Strabane before walking to Raphoe in County Donegal. I will walk from my Grand parents house in Cardenden and finish my journey at the family home where my Grandad grew up in Ireland.

I completed this walk in June of this year and walked over 230miles and 500,000steps to reach Raphoe on Saturday 17th June at lunchtime after leaving Cardenden on Saturday 10th June in the morning. I have added some photos to the page from what was an adventure and an experience of a lifetime. I can't thank all the people I met along the way enough for their kindness. It was fantastic and much appreciated.
