Story
My original story.....
Nearly three years ago I was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer (Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinaemia - WM for short).
Following a six month period of chemotherapy, I was told that I had a 'good partial remission' (it is extremely unlikely there will ever be a total remission). Whilst I am therefore living with cancer, I have been fortunate to be able to lead, as far as possible, a normal life following the treatment and the exceptional level of care I received from the haemotology team at Shrewsbury hospital.
Part of this has been to be able to continue cycling. Whilst a part of me will always be looking over my shoulder awaiting the possibility of the cancer returning to a more serious level, I am relatively strong in health presently and I want to raise some money for the charity that supports people with this blood cancer.
.... and after the ride:-
My cycling is now finished - over 350 km in three days. The support from people I know and people I have never met before (due to the impressive 'socials' by Jaia, Bianca and Joshua (my children), and Rebecca the CEO from TFA events) was overwhelming. Over £2,700 raised to date. A logistical challenge, strongly supported by Susanna, a physical challenge and an entirely uplifting experience.
One of the sponsors made reference to the statement below about the importance of looking forwards and being positive. With generosity from all the people who have supported me, being positive is all the easier.
Thank you
Michael
