Coast to Coast Challenge for PROSTATE CANCER UK

Summer Solstice Coast 2 Coast Plymouth to Minehead · 20 June 2025
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In October 2023 I became a statistic, one of the 1 in 8 men affected by Prostate Cancer. One thing the oncology team recommended amongst the medication was exercise, particularly to maintain my strength and stamina.
So here we are on a Prostate Cancer UK Challenge, it was inspired by Gavin Punchard more a runner than a cyclist, in fact he was a co-founder of the Okehampton Running Club in 2009. Gavin sent me a link to the ride we are taking on, well that was like a red rag to a bull.
Obviously my son Joe wanted to be part of the challenge, that might be useful as he is a first aid trainer!
Also joining me on the challenge is a friend, Chris Bonnett who enjoys being out on the moor on his MTB!
Myself and my son Joe along with 2 friends Gavin Punchard and Chris Bonnett are cycling approximately 120 miles mostly off-road over 3 days from Plymouth to Minehead.
Merv and I first met at the Okehampton Running Club and over the years taken on a number of challenges including the Glencoe Marathon and The Bob Graham Round. Over the last 6 months Merv talked about wanting to do a fund-raising challenge in aid of Prostate cancer. I then came across a GCN cycling challenge ride called the Westcountry Way from Plymouth to Minehead including Dartmoor and Exmoor. What could be better! The link was sent to Merv and the rest is history, as they say.
The challenge itself is a motivator but more importantly it is the fund raising that will go a great cause and will benefit many 1000’s of men …. including Merv I hope.
Chris’ life was also touched by cancer when in February 2024 his wife was diagnosed & went through treatment for breast cancer. Having completed the Nello 100 mile bike ride in June last year in aid of Force Cancer Charity he wanted to support another fantastic charity, Prostate Cancer Uk. He’s really looking forward to taking on this new challenge!
