**Mercia Morris Joins Bulls in the City 2025 Sculpture Trail in Birmingham**
A unique collaboration of ten Morris dancing sides, collectively known as Mercia Morris, is set to sponsor one of the small bull sculptures for the highly anticipated Bulls in the City 2025 art trail. This summer, Birmingham will be transformed by an impressive display of 40 large and 80 small bull sculptures, created by local and national artists. These sculptures will be placed across the city, offering a vibrant and exciting experience for art lovers and visitors alike.
Mercia Morris is the first-ever Morris group collaboration to take part in such a public art project, bringing together 1st Sedgley Morris, Aelfgythe Morris, Bedcote Morris, Beorma Morris, Birmingham Rapper, Black Adder Morris, Erstwhile Morris, Foxs Morris, Jockey Morris, and Ragged Oak Morris. Together, they aim to raise £1,000 for Birmingham Hospice, which will go towards sponsoring their own unique bull sculpture.
This event will significantly expand the awareness of Morris dancing, providing an exciting opportunity to showcase this vibrant tradition in a new, dynamic way. By participating in this public art trail, Mercia Morris hopes to bring the often overlooked world of Morris dancing into the public eye, engaging thousands of people and introducing them to the rich history and joyful energy of Morris dancing.
The bull design will incorporate elements from all 10 sides involved and will be created under the guidance of professional artist Megan Smith-Evans who is also a Morris dancer, with help from every member of each Morris side. The project will celebrate both the artistic and cultural significance of Morris dancing.
In addition to supporting the Hospice, Mercia Morris will also be hosting a Bulls in the City Day of Dance on July 19th, 2025. Morris dancers from all the participating sides will come together to visit as many sculptures as possible, including their own, and perform around Birmingham City Centre.
To make this exciting project happen, Mercia Morris needs the public’s support to raise the £1,000 needed to sponsor the bull. Donations can be made via our fundraising platform.
