STORY
Thank you for taking the time to consider supporting my fundraising efforts as I join the team at "Women on a Mission" to Kayak and Trek Across the Arctic in Support of Displaced Children and Women Survivors of War.
A truly remarkable expedition in the lands north of Spitsbergen. A place where few humans venture - an arctic paradise where polar bears reign and silence dominates, a land of icebergs, glaciers and rocky outcrops of the most northern sea kayaking destination in the world.
We will be exploring the coastlines and glacier walls by kayak, listening to the thundering noise of the collapsing ice falls mixed with the shrill calls of Arctic terns, paddling among electric blue icebergs in freezing waters. We will be sleeping under canvas in beautiful and utterly remote locations, hiking through pristine wilderness, constantly on polar bear and Santa watch, and testing ourselves against the elements on this once in a lifetime expedition as close to the North Pole as many will ever go.
You'll know that I have a passion for supporting children and marginalised groups and I'm in a privileged position where I am able to raise awareness through a time of global disruption and unrest. In a really busy time for all, I appreciate you taking the time to pause and reflect to consider how war, civil unrest and humanitarian issues are affecting our tender women and children.
(I am self-funding this mission so 100% of donations will go directly to the non-profit via this page)
THE MISSION TO KAYAK AND TREK ACROSS THE ARCTIC
The expedition, taking place from 30th August to 10th September 2024, will challenge participants to kayak approximately 30km per day through the stunning Norwegian Svalbard Archipelago, navigating past six distinct glaciers, and engage in hikes up to 6 hours long under the extended daylight hours of the Arctic summer.
The primary goal of this self-funded mission, which marks WOAM's 13th expedition, is to raise $50,000 USD. The funds are dedicated to two outstanding charities: Women for Women International – UK and, for the first time, HumanityCrew.org. Women for Women International has been a long-standing partner of WOAM, working tirelessly with marginalized women in conflict-affected countries to transform their lives. The organization champions equality, peace, and prosperity by supporting women survivors of war to rebuild their communities through skills development, income generation, and advocacy for their rights.
WHY IT MATTERS NOW
Your generous support will directly contribute to Women for Women International – UK and Humanity Crew's emergency relief efforts, ensuring that vital mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) interventions reach those in urgent need through Deployment of Emergency Response Teams, Establishment and Operation of Hubs, Training and Capacity Building of volunteers and health professionals.
