Story

Alright everybody, remember how I was going to run 200 miles to support Free to Run back in 2022? Well, chronic plantar fasciitis and a subsequent broken foot thwarted my efforts but I'm happy to say that I am back! In 2022, I was 10 weeks away from my race when I had to stop training and focus on recovery. Now, in 2024, I'm 10 weeks away from the race and feeling ready!

As a refresher, here is my story and why I am choosing to do this crazy run...

As an ultrarunner, I’ve raced distances ranging from 5k to 100 miles, but I've told everyone I know that I would never run 200 miles. So, you might be wondering what changed? Well, this year I'll be running to raise funds for a cause I truly believe in. Free to Run is a non-profit organization that aims to empower women and girls in regions of conflict through running programs, adventure sports and access to the outdoors. The goal is to help these women become leaders and forces for positive change in their own communities. Among their participants are activists, Fulbright scholars, TEDx speakers and more.

When things get tough, many ultrarunners fall back on the mantra of "I get to do this." I've been extremely privileged in my life that I've always had a supportive family, access to sports and to the outdoors. As an adult, I found that the mountains are my happy place and where I feel like the strongest version of myself. It wasn't always like that and it took many years for me to build up my confidence through running. My first solo, backcountry trail run still lives in my memory as one of my proudest accomplishments to date. I was so nervous (bears and humans are scary business) but, I did it.

I felt so empowered.

I believe that my time spent adventuring makes me a stronger human, a better partner, and a better leader. All women should have that same access and opportunity; that same sense of empowerment.

I am free to run and so I will in support of those who aren't.

Whatever you can spare will be greatly appreciated.

**If you already donated to my campaign in 2022, THANK YOU. Your funds were already sent to Free to Run at the time of donation and you can follow along for updates on this page. There is no pressure to donate again but, of course, anything and everything is welcome.
