Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have been lucky enough to be chosen to run The London Marathon 2024 as part of Team Ataxia UK.
Ataxia is very close to mine and my family's hearts. Our son George, was diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia almost 8 years ago. He had to give up his dream of being a Chef and travelling the world. Instead he is having to adapt his life to work and socialise as best he can within the boundaries the condition allows. He remains positive and a true inspiration to us all on how he deals with this condition daily.
Ataxia is a Progressive Degenerative Neurological Disorder and affects mobility, balance, fine motor skills and speech, to name but a few. Each person affected, can present with differing severities of each or all of the symptoms. These symptoms can be slow to progress or can do so rapidly, there is no telling, so life and plans can be very much like a lottery.
Currently, there is no treatment or cure for this awful condition.
I am running the London Marathon to raise awareness and hopefully some money to help with research into treatment that could hopefully stop the degeneration of this condition and dare I hope one day, a cure!!
I am also running for George and all like him that have to live with this condition daily. So every time I moan about why or how mad I am to be doing this, I will be grateful that I am able!!
Ataxia is a small charity and relies heavily on the generosity of donators. So I know it's a big ask, and not so long ago I was asking the same question, but if you have anything to spare at all in these difficult times, I would be enormously grateful.
