Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. By the time you've made your brew, another person will have developed dementia.

5 years ago my gramps was diagnosed with Vascular dementia & Alzheimer’s. In August last year my beautiful nanna passed away, since the day of his diagnosis my nanna was a full time carer for my gramps over time this took a massive toll on her health & mental health. Not only because she was watching the man she loved fade away but because she received no support whatsoever, it’s only since her passing we have now had help & support presented & opened up for us due to there being no where for my gramps to go. She was never given this option & I strongly feel if she had she’d still be here today. Since she passed, I have become his full time carer in the months before she passed I had moved in to help care for my grandad because days were draining & long especially when no aid is there to help you but being with them ‘caring’ or spending anytime with them was my favourite thing to do! Even though my nanna is gone and my grandad still fading away without a doubt looking after them is my favourite thing to do no matter how hard it is, an is something I aspire to do until the very end just how my nanna wished. An now I know there is help out there I feel like it’s something that I can do an other families should feel the same!

Since becoming a full-time carer for my grandad I had to give up my full-time job as hard as it was. I made the choice with no hesitation that this is something I was going to do. In the limited time I have to myself. I love to bake it feels almost like a release. Only a week before seeing this campaign, I decided I wanted to try take my baking a little bit more seriously. This is thanks to my closest friends and amazing people who I would consider friends now that I have made through TikTok that are in similar situations to me. Without these ‘strangers’ I met on the internet I wouldn’t know about half of the access that is out there for us or where to go for it. Which is why when seeing this on my Facebook feed. I felt very passionate that it’s something I wanted to do. Every time I came to my Nanna & Gramps Tea, biscuits and cakes were mandatory. Whether I raise just the money I donated or my target goal it will all be worth it!

Dementia UK believes that every family affected by dementia should have the support of a specialist nurse because if we did my nanna may still have been here today.

This May, I'm going to bake, brew and raise vital funds for families facing dementia and I am really grateful for any support you can give.
