Story

I'm raising money for Deafblind UK by taking part in Swim Serpentine in London on Saturday 14th September 2024! Thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page and donating to help Deafblind UK deliver practical and emotional support to thousands of people living with deafblindness every year.

I have witnessed first-hand the impact this charity has on the deafblind community, through recently volunteering at a summer camp for young people with Usher syndrome (a rare genetic disease that affects hearing and vision), which was supported by funds from Deafblind UK. It was such an insightful and valuable experience and it's so amazing that the young people were able to connect with others their own age who have the same condition. Working with both deaf, and visually impaired, children and young people throughout my career, I am passionate about ensuring those with sensory loss can achieve their potential.

As most of my friends will know, I am a competent swimmer (or at least I used to be...my swimming efforts have dwindled the past few years!) but I'm entirely new to open water swimming so this will be a new challenge for me. I'll also be diving in (pun intended) off the back of a week-long intensive Uni block in London, so the degree of rest and/or training in the run up to the event is likely to be limited. All adding to the challenge I suppose!

Your support is appreciated and so important, thank you.
