Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be running the London Marathon 2024 for Epilepsy Action. Epilepsy can affect anyone at any stage in their lives, it may be a short-lived condition for some, but for others it is life-long. 1 in 100 people have Epilepsy in the UK.
In 2016, whilst studying at university, I had my first seizure, and was shortly after diagnosed with Epilepsy. My seizures are known as ‘tonic-clonic’ where I lose full consciousness & have violent muscle spasms. I feel the impact of my epilepsy every day; including fatigue, confusion & memory loss. I had to postpone my studies, and 2017 became one of the most challenging years of my life. Managing to still graduate was a battle, but am so pleased to have done so, albeit a year later. Discovering I had epilepsy lost me friends and made me really isolated, due to the stigma of people feeling responsible for me, and the fear of me having seizures around them. Since 2017, I went on the medication Lamotrigine and had been seizure free since. However, in March 2023, I started to have myoclonic jerks. This has had a debilitating impact on my mental health and put my job in heritage at risk.
The one thing keeping me going is running. I started in lockdown and it is a huge motivator for me in my life, I consider it a lifeline in my current circumstances and to be able to run to support Epilepsy Action is not only raising money for a charity so personal to me, but it is also a real emotional support network for me to help me navigate these new changes in my life.
If you would you like to support me on my journey, no matter how big or small, it would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you, Megan x
*In September 2023, I sadly have had another seizure.
