Story
Shortly before his sixth birthday in 2019, our nephew Buddy was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in his left femur bone that had also metastasized to both his lungs. Despite enduring 12 rounds of grueling chemotherapy, 6 rounds of immunotherapy, 12 rounds of oral chemotherapy, 4 lung surgeries, a leg salvage surgery and then a leg amputation, we thought our brave Buddy was nearing the finish line.
However, just this week, as Buddy's uncle JV embarked on the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert—the world's most grueling footrace, inspired by Buddy's courage—we received devastating news: at 10 years old, Buddy's cancer has returned in his lungs.
We are now fundraising to support research for this underfunded cancer that disproportionately affects children and adolescents. JV, an amateur runner, is conquering this six-day, self-sufficient ultramarathon (156 miles) in sweltering 125-degree heat, drawing strength from Buddy's warrior spirit.
Please consider donating whatever you can to ensure this extraordinary effort is not in vain. Our family deeply appreciates your support.
