Story
All monies collected go to SVP Springfield Furniture Bank.
From the Mayor of Chelmsford, Lynne Foster: “I have chosen Springfield Furniture Bank as my charity this year. It is a small, but vital and impactful local charity. Although it has Springfield in its name it operates throughout the City. It is almost entirely run by volunteers.
They collect and recycle unwanted furniture, household goods, small electrical goods, crockery etc and give them to those that have been homeless, have nothing and are with little. This is a true practical example of kindness in action.
However, it also fits beautifully with my background and occupational history. I spent over 25 years working in social housing and my first job was managing a hostel for single homeless people aged from 16 upwards.
I spent hours collecting furniture and helping youngsters to move into a place of their own. For this reason I know just how much the Springfield Furniture bank is needed and appreciated.
Springfield Furniture bank also have a bicycle section where they renovate and recycle old bikes and give them to those that need them, perhaps to get to work in the early mornings, and, as those who know me know, I am an avid cyclist.”
SVP Springfield Furniture bank aim to support anyone in need of furniture in the Chelmsford area who is unlikely to be able to afford to provide essential items themselves.
Support is provided to individuals and families who have fled domestic abuse, people recovering from homelessness or breakdowns in living with family or lacking essential items for any other reason; regardless of ethnicity, faith, sexuality, etc.
Referrals are received from people in need themselves, Chelmsford City Council Housing department, Social Care, Schools, Chelmsford Foodbank, Mental Health team, Child and Family Wellbeing service, Social Prescribers, Citizens Advice, and many other charities and statutory bodies.
