Story
Hi all!
On Saturday 25th May I will be attempting my longest ever ultra-marathon! Walking throughout the day and night, covering 75km (46.6 miles) from London to Brighton.
Last year I completed a 57km hike along the southern coast. They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger so I am back and attempting to beat my record!
Doing events like this are a personal challenge for me, but it's also an opportunity to raise awareness and some money for a charity that has been a significant help to my family.
In 2021, at the peak of the pandemic my sister Amelia suffered a severe allergic reaction to a prescribed medication for her epilepsy. This resulted in her developing psychosis. It was like nothing we had experienced before as a family and at a time when the NHS was already stretched, we worried about how we would be able to get the help we so desperately needed to help Amelia get well.
That's where the East Sussex Early Intervention in Psychosis service stepped in. I've been so impressed with the help they have given, and in her words,
"The service offered me a long term care plan and also helped with my wellbeing, social connections, creating great coping skills and preparing me for my new life and has helped me become the person I am today".
EIPS is supported by a charity called Heads On, who offered Amelia her first post-diagnosis work opportunity and created a Buddy Role so that she can use her experience to help others.
Her journey has been transformative and we are so grateful to the service and proud of Amelia!
I have created this page for Heads Up and the money raised will be shared between them and EIPS. Any amount is appreciated to help the service continue helping those affected by psychosis. Thank you!
