Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hello everyone, thank you for taking the time to read this and also hopefully for your donations.

Alex and I have worked together over the last 15 years and we discovered our shared enjoyment of cycling.

So, now with a lot more time on my hands we decided the time was right to take on the Lands end to John O Groats challenge.

1000 miles over 14 days.

Why for Samaritans?

My wife now spends time as a volunteer at the Nottingham branch of Samaritans.

Learning about the vital role that Samaritans play within society and the importance of their phone lines being available got me thinking.

Maybe I could make a difference?

Maybe together we could?

Together we could make a change that saves lives.

Founded in 1953 by Chad Varah with his vision that there should be “fewer deaths by suicide” Samaritans now has 200 branches with over 23000 volunteers giving their time.

They receive a phone call on average every 10 seconds.

“We are here to listen and offer support “ was the mission….

As a charity organisation each branch is responsible for its own funding and fundraising, costs such as rent, rates, electricity and even the phone bills all have to be covered through donations.

Keeping the lights on and the phones manned means the volunteers can work towards their mission and take that next call.

More importantly knowing that together we have made a difference that could save lives would make the LEJOG challenge all the more worthwhile.

Thank you so much for your support.

Max & Alex.
