On the 5th August, I will be cycling 1,500km from Oslo-Copenhagen-Stockholm with two friends (Duncan & Hugo) for charity. The ride will take us up climbs totalling more than 25,000ft along the Swedish coastline. Each day the three of us will average 110km while carrying all of our kit on our bikes. We have set ourselves under two weeks to complete the journey (see gallery) and hope that the sun will be shining this time around! 2 years ago, the same trio completed a 1,500km adventure around Iceland's ring road, battling challenging rain and wind while passing through its stunning volcanic landscape.
The purpose of the cycling challenge is to raise money for the Mary Hare Foundation, a school for deaf children that takes in both day and boarding pupils from Year 1 to Year 13 from across the country. The school only uses the oral communication method and does not use British sign language (BSL). Children are provided with a solid foundation in the English language and are able to progress on to sitting standard school exams such as GCSEs, A-Levels, and vocational courses. Mary Hare helps to build confidence in their pupils allowing them to become independent, develop deep friendships and have a better chance of success in their life ambitions.
My mother was born deaf and so I chose this charity as I have experienced first-hand how these teaching techniques have helped her to be independent throughout her life. Donating to Mary Hare will provide pupils with the same opportunity through valuable funds for speech and language therapy, as well as transform the facilities for the primary school.
Please can I ask for your support throughout this trip by making a donation of any size towards the Mary Hare Foundation using the link below. For each £1 donated, it will be matched up to the first £4,000 so every donation will mean a lot.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and I look forward to keeping you updated on our progress.
