Fundraising for Henshaws
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page and helping me support a wonderful charity in Henshaws.
As you (probably) know I'm a personal trainer and over this past year I've began working with an absolute gent of a man who is fully blind. He can't, as he so frequently jokes with me, "see jack s***."
David lost sight in his right eye in an accident as a child. A few years ago he had a skin cancer diagnosis around his left cheekbone.
I'm simplifying what was quite an ordeal for David here by saying that the treatment of that and the subsequent skin grafts required have led him to losing sight in his left eye.
For over 50 years David had vision, albeit partial, and then in a matter of weeks despite the successful treatment of his cancer diagnosis, it had completely gone.
I've watched as he has become not only fitter and stronger over the past few months but also how he has regained confidence in his body again.
Henshaws do some fantastic work to help those affected by sight loss and other disabilities and I know how much they've helped David.
When I signed up for this marathon I did so because I wanted to challenge myself and it's also something I've had on my bucket list.
I can tell you now I'm part way through my training that if it wasn't for the fact that I'd like to raise some money for a wonderful cause I'd have definitely scrubbed running a marathon from the bucket list!
There is not one part of me that is enjoying running BUT what's keeping me going is the commitment that I've made and the reminder that I'm in a fortunate position to be able to do something like this.
Please, if you have got this far and you are able to, donate whatever you can. However much you can. Whether it's £2 or £20 (or more!)
Thank you!
Matt
